Blackcaps stomp Sri Lanka in the ICC world Cup 2019

The Blackcaps come with a stomping victory over Sri Lanka yesterdays ODI at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Wales.

This was an absolutely stellar performance from New Zealand winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

First innings:

The Blackcaps had immense pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen and although at times it looked as though the batsmen had settled in, they could not keep up with the pace on the NZ bowlers. The variation in pitch, speed, and technique truly made New Zealand a dangerous side. Henry and Ferguson both had an amazing form in the game both taking 3 wickets each (6 in total) against Sri Lanka.

From the get-go, Sri Lanka looked shaky, but Dimuth Karuanratne (captain of Sri Lanka), settled the run rate a bit by grabbing 52 runs not out.  Kusal Perera and Thisara Perara also had good runs at 29 and 27 respectively. Catches win matches and we can see the Blackcaps had excellent bowling and positional placement on the field by the captain Kane Williamson. Ironic on the last two balls where there was a dropped catch and the next ball a beautiful yorker by Ferguson to close the game out. Wickets fell fast and Sri Lanka was all out for 136 after 29.2 overs.

Second innings:

The Blackcaps had an absolute stunner of a second innings. Martin Guptill ending on 73 not out and Colin Munro not out for 58. This partnership was amazing, and it was good to see these two opening the face of their bat. Malinga and Lakmal had some good bowling, but unfortunately, it wasn’t good enough to stop New Zealand’s opening batsmen. The Blackcaps ending on 137 for nothing, no one got out.
Although New Zealand was playing amazingly, personally I thought the Sri Lankan side was underperforming at times. Sadly this was a more or less one-sided game at times, due to the impeccable bowling abilities of the Blackcaps and placement on the field. Not to mention the epic performance by Guptill and Munro.

If your Kiwi like me I’d highly recommend staying up to watch these games, New Zealand looks like they are currently performing well and set for some awesome games ahead.

Keep it up Blackcaps!
