Install and remove a GPU from a Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Box (eGPU)
This is a simple tutorial on installing and removing a GPU from a Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Box (eGPU). Quite a simple process and I have added timestamps to speed the process up. 🙂
Here is the tutorial on how to install and remove a GPU from a Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Box:
Prerequisites:
- Screwdriver kit.
- To put the case back on,
- The GPU needs to be:
- Half Length
- Can either be a single or MAX dual slot design.
- Less than 450w power draw from graphics card (GTX 1070 model).
- Require only one 8pin connector (GTX 1070 model).
Written instructions (Images coming soon):
Step 1: Open the Case
- Remove the screws from the left and right front portions of the case.
- Remove the screws from the back of the case.
- To open the case:
- Hold the front part of the case.
- Hold the top part with your other hand and gently pull back to the left.
- If necessary, place the case on its side or at an angle to make shroud removal easier.
Step 2: Remove the Power Connectors and Retention Bar
- Remove the Retention Bar (thin metal piece holding the front and back of the case together):
- Press up on the retention bar to release it.
- Remove the plastic glued to the graphics card by pulling upwards.
- Disconnect the Power Cable from the Graphics Card:
- Locate the power cable on the top-right of the graphics card (black cable).
- Press the latch at the back of the connector and wiggle it gently upwards to disconnect.
- Unscrew the Graphics Card Bracket:
- At the back of the graphics card, remove the screw that is securing the silver bracket of the graphics card to the case.
Step 3: Remove the Graphics Card
- This motherboard does not have a PCIe lock so:
- Place one hand at the bottom of the graphics card and the other at the top.
- Gently push up from the bottom while pulling gently from the top to release the card.
- The graphics card should now be free.
Step 4 (Optional): Clean the Graphics Card and Case
- Use compressed air or a soft cloth to remove dust buildup from the graphics card and case.
Step 5: Install the Graphics Card
- Check that the graphics card fits inside the case.
- Insert the graphics card into the x16 PCIe slot while ensuring the silver bracket aligns with the case.
- Secure the graphics card by reinstalling the screw on the bracket.
- Reconnect the power connector:
- Use the 8-pin power connector (split into 6-pin + 2-pin).
- Place the 2-pin section next to the 6-pin and slide them down together.
- Ensure the connection is flush with no gap between the pins.
- Insert the power connector into the graphics card’s power slot. Press in to make sure the connector is connected properly.
Make sure that the power cables are not touching the fans to avoid an annoying sound as well.
- Press the plastic back onto the graphics card. Don’t worry if it does not go back down you might need to put some sticky material to make it stick down again but its not too important.
Step 6: Close the Case and Reinstall Screws
- Align the case with the shroud’s railing system and slide it back into place.
- Reinstall the six screws to secure the case.
Step 7: All Done!
- Your graphics card has been successfully installed or reinstalled.
- Enjoy your Aorus Gaming Box with your updated graphics setup! 😀
